Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to implement new payment system

Category: Merchant Processing Industry

The transit system in one Pennsylvania community will soon be giving members the ability to pay for services using a whole new method.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority stated that it had signed a contract with ACS, owned by Xerox, to equip the stations with machines that will allow people to wave cards or mobile phones. The new network is expended to take three years to implement and seeks to reduce the amount of time it takes riders to complete the transactions.

The head of the SEPTA, Joseph M. Casey, said the move represented a key step in the agency's evolution and that those using the system would benefit from the new merchant services system.

"This next generation payment system will offer an extraordinary level of convenience, speed and accuracy for customers," said Casey.

Transit companies all over the country have been implementing new technology to make the process easier. By allowing people to use their phones for payment, they will no longer have to dig through their wallets to find the right cards.
