A new program will allow church-goers in a Georgia community to make donations via their smart phones.
Mobile app maker SecureGive announced that it had designed a program for parishioners at Stevens Creek Church to allow them to give gifts to a number of different worthy causes. The downloadable program is available through Android, iPad or iPhone devices and hopes to give worshipers an easier way to hand out funds to charities.
The head of the church, Dr. Marty Baker, said that fewer people these days carried considerable amounts of cash on them, so the program would meet their needs more effectively.
"In addition to traditional ways of receiving charitable donations, churches are now using mobile apps to make giving to their ministry accessible wherever they have their phone. In today's economy, fewer and fewer people are carrying cash or checkbooks," said Baker, the church's founding pastor.
There are many signs that more customers are adopting the merchant services method. A study by PriceGrabber found that 39 percent of consumers have downloaded shopping apps.
